HARRISON TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Construction has started on the Selfridge Air National Guard Base runway.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesdayday to make the runway 1,000-feet longer to the north and the expansion will bring at least four newly built F-15EX Eagle II fighter jets.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Democratic state Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks and Republican state House Speaker Matt Hall were among the speakers at the ceremony as the two parties came together for the $152-million bill signed by Whitmer on May 27th.
Michigan National Guard Major General Paul Rogers says Selfridge is the last of what the Air Force calls a “Super Base” in the U.S. and is wholly owned and operated by the U.S. Air Force.
