LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Michigan Senate did not vote on a 90-day state gas tax suspension Thursday, but did set session days for October 6 and 14.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer says her administration is looking into other ways to get gas prices down without pausing the tax, which funds road repairs.
She would not say if she would veto a bill to suspend the tax.
Whitmer says the federal government caused the prices to rise with the war with Iran and says that needs to end and Washington, DC needs to give drivers immediate relief.
State House Speaker Matt Hall of Richland said earlier this week that he did not want to vote on a gas tax suspension that didn’t replace the revenue generated from that.
He now says, however, that if it passes the Senate, he will bring it up for a vote in the House and send it to Whitmer if it passes, even without a revenue replacement.
