KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Alex Gary has been introduced as Western Michigan University’s new athletic director.
Gary comes to Kalamazoo after spending the last year as Southern Methodist University’s deputy athletic director for external relations.
He also was the AD at Western Carolina University for five years and also had leadership roles at the University of Michigan, Oregon State University, and the University of Maryland.
Gary says he is looking forward to the opening of the new Kalamazoo Event Center in 2027, as that will be the new home for WMU hockey and men’s and women’s basketball.
He is succeeding Dan Bartholomae, who left WMU to become Michigan State University’s athletic director this summer.
