KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo County Fair will be making a comeback in a few weeks at the Epic Center and county fairgrounds on Lake Street.
The previous incarnation of the 180-year event ran into financial difficulties and COVID-19 and was downsized to just 4-H event for the past few years, featuring the animals raised by teens.
Thanks to a subsidy from the Kalamazoo County board, parks director Dave Rachowicz says this year, its going to be a community party again with live entertainment, food, exhibits, and experiences.
He says agriculture remains the heart of the event with a 4-H showcase to demonstrate to urbanites where food comes from.
But to draw people, they plan the kinds of things that bring people to county fairs, like a midway and two stages, one for small acts and presentations, and music on the other stage.
Rachowicz says there will be food vendors, because what fair would be complete without funnel cakes and corn dogs?
The five day event will wrap up with a rodeo Saturday night.
It will start August 4th with two days of primarily 4-H events and then 3 days of fun on Thursday, Friday and Saturday that week.
