COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo County Comstock Township Board of Trustees is in chaos, after three members quit Friday after months of infighting among members of the board.
Clerk Nicole Beauchamp, Trustee Kristie Cherry, and Trustee Terry McIver all resigned.
All seven township board members faced recall efforts this year, but recall organizers were only able to get enough qualified signatures to get Republican Cherry and Democrat Bob Pratt’s names on the November ballot.
In a Facebook post, Township Supervisor Ben Martin said, “I will share additional information with the community regarding the process for filling these vacancies as it becomes available. This will likely change the status of the November recall elections, I have been in contact with the election commission and will share the information as it becomes available.”
Recent board member battles have been over how to regulate potential battery energy storage facilities, allegations of potential Open Meetings Act violations, and the firing without cause of Superintendent Scott Hess in June, which resulted in a $412,000 payout by the township.
The next township board meeting is Monday at 6:00 p.m.
