LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – State Representative James DeSana wants to repeal Michigan’s 24% marijuana wholesale tax that took effect January 1st to pay for road construction.
The Carleton Republican says the tax “isn’t even bringing in half of the revenue lawmakers promised,” noting the latest revenue figures show the tax came up about $70-million short of projections in the first third of 2026.
DeSana notes he has been opposed to the tax since it was approved by lawmakers, calling an unnecessary burden on working people and the state’s legal cannabis industry.
He adds the tax is impacting the industry’s ability to compete with the black market.
