BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Battle Creek Police Department says an officer on foot patrol recovered a rifle from a 16-year-old and took him into custody early Sunday near an apartment complex in the 200 block of Freedom Lane.
At approximately 2:05 a.m., the officer saw several people outside the complex. When the officer went up the group, they “observed behavior by the teen consistent with being armed.”
During a pat-down for weapons, the officer discovered a rifle and took the teen into custody.
BCPD says an 18-year-old man interfered with the officer during the arrest. Police issued him a citation and released him.
A crowd gathered during the incident, and additional officers responded and they stabilized the scene without further incident. No injuries were reported.
Police lodged the 16-year-old at the Calhoun County Juvenile Detention Facility on a weapons offense.
