PRETORIA, Sept 8 (Reuters) – South Africa’s economy contracted 0.2% in the second quarter of 2026 in seasonally adjusted quarter-on-quarter terms, statistics agency data showed on Tuesday.
Economists polled by Reuters had forecast that gross domestic product (GDP) would shrink 0.1%, compared to revised growth of 0.4% in the first quarter of this year.
On a year-on-year basis, GDP grew 0.9% in April-June, also worse than economists’ forecast for 1.2% growth.
