GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Grand Rapids police have released video of the officer-involved shooting of a man who threw a Molotov cocktail at a police cruiser and stabbed a K-9.
Interim Police Chief Joe Trigg says the incident was tragic for everyone involved and they released the video to be transparent.
The shooting killed 45-year-old Eddie Deans Jr. whose mother called 9-1-1 to say he was threatening to kill the entire family, was armed with knives, and would kill himself if police arrived.
Trigg says police used projectiles similar to racquetballs cut in half to try to get Dean to give up, but were not successful.
An officer shot him several times when he kept moving toward officers with the knife.
