KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Governor Gretchen Whitmer served meals to students at Kalamazoo’s Woods Lake Elementary School yesterday and said the education reforms she signed into law need time to take effect.
That’s after the MSTEP test results for third grade reading proficiency hit a record low.
Whitmer says she signed bills in 2024 to make $150-million available to districts for more training for teachers and the state says over 7,600 have completed the training so far.
She says officials need to stay focused and continue to make education better for students.
