KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Voting in Michigan’s August 4th primary shifts into second gear this weekend, as the next phase of voter reforms kick in.
It’s called early voting, and it’s different than absentee balloting, which permits you to receive and send your ballot by mail.
Early voting requires a voter to travel to an actual designated balloting office, fill out a ballot, and slip it into a tabulator.
This time there will be seven locations open around Kalamazoo County.
Portage city councilmember Vic Ledbetter says the polling places open Saturday.
The Kalamazoo Expo Center, the Portage Parks Department, the Douglass Community Association, and the Fetzer Center will once again host the precincts.
This year, Comstock, Cooper and Pavilion townships will also host the early balloting at their township halls.
They will be open from Saturday July 25th to Sunday August 2nd from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day.
Voters approved the reforms in 2022, as part of a package of proposals to expand voter access during state and federal elections.
