PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – To mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the city of Portage sponsored a contest for elementary aged children to create their own birthday cards for the U.S.A.
The six winners were named at the city council meeting last week and honored with a certificate and an American flag that was flown over the nation’s Capitol.
Here’s City Manager Pat McGinnis.
Assistant City Manager Tom Rossiter organized the contest.
Four of the six winners were on hand to accept their prizes. They are Olivia Bates, Fritz Peer, Vivian Steenhagen, and Natalie Vance. Uriah Start and Lilianna Szwed were out of town on vacation.
The cards are on display in the lobby of Portage City Hall.
