LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan House Speaker Matt Hall says he wants the Republican property tax cut plan connected with the final Fiscal Year 2027 budget.
The Richland lawmaker says the plan has four major components: eliminating the property tax “pop-up” when ownership of a property changes hands; repealing the real estate transfer tax; repealing the six-mill State Education Tax; and exempting remaining personal property from personal property taxes.
Democrats warn the property tax cut bills could eliminate money from education, public safety, and local government funding.
A resolution included with the ten bills would require two-thirds support in both the House and Senate and voter approval in the next general election to take effect.
