KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety investigators have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the murder early Sunday of a Kalamazoo woman.
They say the man was arrested on suspicion of murder, felony firearm, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
Following the arrest, investigators executed a search warrant in the 1000 block of Douglas Avenue, where they recovered a firearm and additional evidence related to the homicide.
The suspect’s name will not be released until he is formally arraigned later this week.
Their investigation began around 4:15 a.m. Sunday when KDPS officers were dispatched to a home in the 100 block of Reed Avenue for a report of a shooting. Officers arrived and found 49-year-old Latraysa Dayon Brown suffering from gunshot wounds. They began life-saving measures before she was transported to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
KDPS says the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact their department.
