KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – It’s mid-July, meaning summer vacation is about half over for public school students.
That’s why Kydnet, the Kalamazoo Youth Development Network, will be holding a special event in Bronson Park on Thursday.
It’s aimed to fight “summer slide,” the loss of academic skills and knowledge that research shows students experience during the summer break if they aren’t kept engaged in reading and other educational activities.
Regina Kibezi with the Kalamazoo Youth Development Network says it’s a fun family-friendly celebration with music, food games and other activities to raise awareness.
The cties of Kalamazoo and Portage have both declared Thursday the National Day of Summer Learning.
The event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday in Bronson Park.
