ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 18, 2026) – It’s the turn of seat belt use enhanced enforcement as the summer vacation season nears.
Beginning on Monday, extra patrols of state police, county deputies, and local officers will be on Michigan’s major roadways, beginning a two-week-long effort to prevent injuries and deaths stemming from traffic mishaps. This particular “Click It or Ticket” initiative spotlights buckling up, as state police officials cite research, done two years ago, which indicated 222 unbuckled persons lost their lives in crashes on Michigan roads.
Allegan County Sheriff Frank Baker will have his deputies participating in this effort.
Those in blue, black or brown will also be looking for drunken and distracted driving, as well as speeding and other reckless motoring, as the effort to reduce fatalities on state roadways by 30 percent by 2030 continues.
