LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Democrats in Michigan have chosen Dr. Abdul El-Sayed as their nominee in the U.S. Senate race.
He defeated Congresswoman Haley Stevens in the primary and will face Republican former Congressman Mike Rogers, who is making his second consecutive attempt to be elected to the Senate.
Rogers lost in 2024 to U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin as they were seeking to succeed Senator Debbie Stabenow.
This election will be to succeed Senator Gary Peters, who chose not to run again.
Michigan Senate Majority Whip Mallory McMorrow endorsed El-Sayed moments after the race was called. She ended her bid for the U.S. Senate earlier this summer.
