KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Early in-person voting for Michigan’s August primary began around the state this past this weekend.
The nine day window will through Sunday, August 2.
Voters registered in the cities of Kalamazoo, Parchment, and Portage, as well as Alamo, Charleston, Kalamazoo, Oshtemo, Prairie Ronde, Richland, Ross, Schoolcraft, Texas, and Wakeshma Townships may vote from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. each day at the Douglass Community Association, 1000 West Paterson Street, Kalamazoo, the Kalamazoo County Expo Center, 2900 Lake Street, Kalamazoo, the Fetzer Center at Western Michigan University, 2251 Business Court, Kalamazoo, or the Portage Parks and Recreation Department, 320 Library Lane, Portage.
Residents of Brady Township, Climax Township, or Pavilion Township can vote weekdays from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and weekends from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at the Pavilion Township Hall, 7510 East Q Avenue, Scotts.
Comstock Township or the City of Galesburg residents can vote from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. at the Comstock Township Hall, 5858 King Highway, Kalamazoo.
Cooper Township residents can do in-person early voting from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at the Cooper Township Hall, 1590 West D Avenue, Kalamazoo.
Regular polling locations will be open from 7:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 4.
In addition to races like U.S. Senate and the governor, Kalamazoo County voters will be voting on two tax proposals. One is a new 0.5-mill countywide tax to create a first-ever fund dedicated to addressing childcare needs of children through five years old.
The second is near renewal for Kalamazoo Metro, the county’s transit system. The 0.36‑mill question for Metro Connect and Metro Share is an increase from the current tax for those programs of .3124 mills, but due to state regulations that use inflation to cap property taxes, it is lower than the .4 mills previously approved by voters.
Texas Township voters, and those living in four school or library districts that extend into Kalamazoo County, have additional proposals to consider as well.
