KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The city of Kalamazoo is moving its Community Planning & Economic Development offices and the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Records Division and Police walk-up service window.
Those offices will close at 11 a.m. Monday and be closed through through Wednesday next week, July 27th through 29th.
The offices are relocating to the Arthur Washington Jr. Crosstown Center at 150 East Crosstown Parkway and will be fully open there Monday, August 3rd.
Most operations will resume on Thursday, July 30th.
Residents, contractors, developers, and business owners should be aware of the following temporary service changes:
- CPED offices will be closed Monday, July 27 at 11 a.m. through Wednesday, July 29.
- CPED phone and email service will resume on Thursday, July 30.
- Permit applications can be submitted online at any time throughout the move. Permit payments should be made online or by mail during the transition.
- All other CPED-related payments will be handled by the City Treasurer’s Office at City Hall from Monday, July 27, through Friday, July 31. Beginning Monday, August 3, all CPED payments will be accepted at the new office at 150 East Crosstown Parkway.
- Beginning Monday, August 3, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Records Division and police walk-up service window will be accessible through the new public entrance on the renovated side of 150 East Crosstown Parkway.
The relocation is part of the city’s $11.2 million remodel of the Arthur Washington Jr. Crosstown Center.
The work is transforming 43,250 square feet of the former county courts building into a modern city workplace and renovating part of the KDPS Headquarters.
Once fully open, the renovated facility will feature:
- A welcoming public lobby for CPED services
- A dedicated public service area for the KDPS Records Division and police walk-up service window
- Service windows and a business center
- Modern meeting rooms for residents, businesses, and community organizations
- Centralized offices for planning, permitting, inspections, and development services
- Ample free parking for visitors
- Flexible space to support future city needs
By bringing related services together under one roof, the Crosstown Center will improve collaboration between departments while making it easier for residents, businesses, contractors, and developers to access city services in a modern, accessible facility.
