POKAGON TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – One person is dead after his vehicle apparently ran a stop sign and was struck by another vehicle near Dowagiac Saturday evening.
At around 6:45 p.m. deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to the two-vehicle crash at the intersection of M-51 Hwy and Crystal Springs Street.
Their investigation showed that a vehicle being driven by 53-year-old Jonathan Lounds of Sault Ste Marie, Michigan was traveling south on M-51 when a vehicle driven by 52-year-old Steven Dodd of Niles failed to stop at the stop sign at Crystal Springs Street and was struck.
Dodd was pronounced dead at the scene. Lounds was transported by EMS to South Bend Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
A passenger in Dodd’s vehicle, 25-year-ols Justin Zeitler of South Bend, Indiana was transported by EMS to South Bend Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries sustained in the crash.
The Sheriff’s Office says it is unknown if seat belts were worn at the time of the crash.
