KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Housing Resources Incorporated, also known as HRI, has chosen a location for it’s tiny home Pod community.
The announcement was made by HRI in a news release on Tuesday, February 28.
According to the City of Kalamazoo, the Pod community is expected to be located at 333 East Alcott Street in Kalamazoo. HRI has already signed a Letter of Intent with the City of Kalamazoo to move forward in development. The LOI provides HRI a six-month period to continue due diligence and decide whether the site, located at 333 E. Alcott Street, is feasible for the project through a lease or purchase.
The community is estimated to hold 50 tiny homes at the location south of Reed Street and west of Portage creek.
The pods themselves are expected to meet the basic needs of individuals, by providing electricity, heating, air conditioning, beds, mattresses and fire extinguishers.
The units are simple shelters with heat and electricity, and a couple of beds, but no bathrooms or kitchens, as those facilities will be adjacent to the Pods. Once it’s ready, the micro-community will have management 24/7, according to HRI.
According to city officials, the proposed project is located on real estate property owned by the City of Kalamazoo Brownfield Redevelopment Authority.
