BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Community leaders, staff, and project partners gathered Tuesday afternoon to celebrate the completion of a $13 million renovation to the Calhoun County Youth Center.
The project to transform the 50-year-old facility was approved by the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners in 2022.
The renovated Youth Center has expanded from 15,760 to nearly 30,000 square feet and now features a podular design that county officials say increases safety and efficiency. Updates include expanded classroom, counseling, and recreation spaces; upgraded security and communication systems; and dedicated areas for court hearings and medical care.
The Calhoun County Youth Center serves youth placed by court order from across the state of Michigan, not only from Calhoun County.
Programs include detention, individual and group counseling, and the Empowered Youth Experience Successes (EYES) behavioral treatment program, which focuses on rational thinking, anger management, and substance abuse prevention.
