BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A Battle Creek doctor who owned and operated Parkside Medical will pay over $700,000 to settle a federal lawsuit.
Shekhar Thakur was accused by the U.S. Justice Department of prescribing opioids and other drugs to patients who did not need the medication.
Federal prosecutors say people sought him out to “feed their addictions to opioids or benzodiazepines,” and add some patients sold the medicine to others.
Thakur surrendered his Drug Enforcement Administration registration in 2020 and his medical licenses were stripped in 2022 and 2023.
