PAW PAW, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The same day that Detroit mayor and independent candidate for governor Mike Duggan announced he has raised $3.2 million toward his campaign, Republican Senate Leader Aric Nesbitt announced Friday his campaign has raised $2.3 million since announcing his gubernatorial bid, with a total cash on hand of $1.95 million.
Candidates in both parties trail Republican Congressman John James in the fundraising department.
The Detroit News reported in May that James is receiving a $5 million campaign contribution from Dan and Pamella DeVos. The money is being committed to Mission Michigan, a super PAC formed in April by James’ supporters.
Dan DeVos chairs the family-owned Orlando Magic NBA team and a venture capital firm, the News reports. He is the son of Amway founder Richard DeVos and the brother of former GOP gubernatorial candidate Dick DeVos, who is married to Betsy DeVos, the former Secretary of Education.
Also n the Republican side, former state Attorney General Mike Cox, who jumped into the race in April, said his campaign has raised $2.4 million and has $1.9 million in the bank.
