KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The city of Kalamazoo will soon join Kalamazoo County in negotiations on how the new proposed youth sports complex should be managed and who should sit on its authority board.
Jane Ghosh with Discover Kalamazoo says an authority was recommended because it permits a wide range of stakeholders to sit on the panel, including the hoteliers, who are picking up the tab for construction, and the two governmental entities who will have the most invested in the facility.
Ghosh was asked who will be responsible to pay if as she projects, the center runs a deficit initially. She says they should have enough money in the bank by then to cover it.
“We are projecting revenue ahead of debt service requirements and that revenue then can be used to pay off the operating deficit in the first year or two.”
She says they have already begun collecting revenue from the 4% fee on hotel guests.
