BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is putting out a reminder to people that they will not call anyone and request payment to take care of an arrest warrant.
Deputies say they have had several complaints from people about scammers doing that, saying they identify themselves as an administrative staff member with the sheriff’s office and want to receive a payment to have someone avoid being arrested.
The sheriff’s office says they will never do that, and no other law enforcement agency will, either. They are urging people to never give personal information to anyone over the phone without verifying their legitimacy.
If personal information is released to a suspected scammer, please contact your local law enforcement agency as soon as possible. Also, contact your local financial institution to advise them that personal information was released to protect financial accounts.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau is investigating the complaints further and attempting to identify those involved in the fraudulent actions.
