KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – 244 contract employees who work at Ascension Borgess hospitals will be laid off in advance of the hospital sales to an Indiana-based health care system.
The employees work for Compass Group, which provides contracted services to Ascension Borgess. The contract is now being ended early on July 1 due to the sale of the hospitals.
Housekeepers, food workers and patient transporters were among the most impacted positions, which included 200 at Acension Borgess in Kalamazoo. Other job cuts will be at Acension facilities in Plainwell, Allegan, and Dowagiac.
Indiana-based Beacon Health System is acquiring the Ascension health care system this summer, including four hospitals, 35 outpatient clinics and an ambulatory surgery center.
