KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Girls on the Run of Greater Kalamazoo is asking for around 500 volunteers 14 and older for its 22nd annual 5K event at Kalamazoo Valley Community College next month. The 5K is set for Saturday, May 18 at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Over 1,000 girls from fifty schools and community sites in the Greater Kalamazoo area will take part in the untimed event. They are between third and fifth grades.
Volunteer roles range from managing water stations, motivating girls along the course, and providing first aid.
The 5K is being offered in a morning and afternoon wave due to capacity limitations. Volunteers can choose to donate time at either or both sessions.
Officials say the most crucial roles are in parking, first aid, and tear-down. To guarantee getting a t-shirt in their preferred size, they encourage people to register as soon as possible and no later than April 26.
Nearly 34,000 girls have completed the 5K in Greater Kalamazoo since the program began in 2002, walking away with a new set of skills to help them lead joyful and healthy lives.
