KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo County’s official history is now being updated to digital. At least its history since the pioneers moved into the area.
Clerk Registrar Meredith Place says she has initiated a $600,000 project to digitize all her documents.
Last week, a crew from U.S. Imaging worked around the clock to scan the County’s oldest land records which were hand written into 1500 books.
“Those record books go back to 1836, so they’re pretty cool,” said Place who stressed that up until now, all they had were the originals and Microfilm copies which are at-risk because of their age.
“Phase one of the project which includes scanning old Microfilm for the years 1985 to 1969 has been complete,” continued Place who said the process will not only save old copies, but will make them easier to access for her staff and the public.
