KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The sudden resignation of Kalamazoo Schools Superintendent Dr. Rita Raichoudhuri has left staff and some board members unhappy with the district and the Board of Education.
Our reporter John McNeill obtained a copy of the resignation agreement through the Freedom of Information Act.
Dr. Raichoudhuri will receive a $225,000 one time payout and 23 days of accrued vacation pay. The school district will also cover her healthcare through May 2023.
Board of Education Trustee Megan Maddock said she was disappointed they were unable to work out their differences with Raichoudhuri.
Michigan Education Association Uniserv Representative Tom Greg suggests the board may have been at odds with Raichoudhuri over her recommendation for staff retention bonuses approved last week.
Teachers union local President Heather Reid thanked Dr. Raichoudhuri for proposing the retention bonus and was critical of the school board for not offering them sooner.
Former Assistant Superintendent Cindy Green has been appointed superintendent on an interim basis.
